Job summary

Old School Ties in Cape Town invites experienced music educators to apply for a part-time Violin teacher starting January 2027. The role covers individual lessons and ensembles for beginners to advanced students; candidates should bring a music degree or diploma with violin as principal study, SACE, and preferably a PGCE.

You'll prepare pupils for eisteddfods and graded exams (Trinity, ABRSM, UNISA), maintain attendance and progress reports, and collaborate with parents.

MUSIC EDUCATOR (REF: Music/03-27) – VIOLIN

VACANCY: MUSIC EDUCATOR (REF: Music/03-27)

We invite experienced and suitably qualified applicants to join our team of innovative music educators. We are looking for a part-time Violin teacher, commencing in January 2027.

Requirements:

• Qualifications: A music degree or diploma with violin as a principal study, or an equivalent performance or teaching qualification. SACE is required and PGCE is preferred.
• Experience: Proven experience teaching violin to children, ideally girls aged 6–13.
• Method knowledge: Familiarity with approaches such as Suzuki, Colourstrings or similar, is required.
• Skills: The ability to keep young learners motivated and engaged, ability to accompany own students on the piano, basic instrument care, Sibelius proficient and strong music arranging skills.
• Safeguarding and compliance: A police clearance certificate.

The role:

• Teaching load: Individual lessons and ensembles.
• Level: Beginners through to intermediate or advanced.
• Exam work: Preparing pupils for eisteddfods and graded exams (e.g. Trinity, ABRSM, UNISA) and handling entries and exam-day logistics.
• Ensemble involvement: Mini Maestros (Grade R music program) and a junior string ensemble.
• Admin expectations: Attendance records, progress reports, termly communication with parents which will include individual lessons invoicing.

This is a part-time post and therefore will be paid by parents. There is no affiliation to our SGB.
