Overview :

Our client is a financial services provider, managing close to R20 billion in assets under management across South Africa and offshore. They are seeking an analyst to work closely in a team with the Portfolio Managers, supporting the portfolio efforts for their multi-asset products.

If you are currently working within a LISP environment or a Unit Trust company and looking to transition into asset management as a Junior Investment Analyst, then this role is suitable for you. This opportunity provides the entry-level experience you may be seeking.

Responsibilities :

  1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the multi-asset team's models, fundamental research inputs, portfolio guidelines, and objectives to inform investment strategies.
  2. Contribute to research and implementation of alternative risk strategies and dynamic asset allocation across various asset classes such as equities, bonds, currencies, and commodities.
  3. Review portfolio positions across accounts and identify trades or rebalancing needs to align with current strategies.
  4. Conduct ad-hoc research on market environment, portfolio design, and strategy implementation to support portfolio decisions.
  5. Provide data and communication support to business development and client teams, explaining investment theses and portfolio positioning.

Requirements :

  1. Degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, or related quantitative fields; post-graduate qualifications such as B.Bus.Sci or B.Com (Hons) preferred.
  2. Studying towards CFA qualification is advantageous.
  3. Zero to three years of experience in an asset management environment, preferably within a LISP or Unit Trust setting.
  4. Passion for investing and a strong desire to be an active part of a multi-asset investment process.
  5. Interpersonal skills and the ability to engage comfortably with colleagues and clients in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Highly analytical with keen attention to detail.
  7. Proven initiative, autonomy, and a proactive approach to personal development.
  8. Ability to program and analyze large data sets using common statistical software (experience with MATLAB is a plus).
  9. South African citizens only.
  10. Own transport is required.
