Qualifications

  • Must hold a current/valid temple recommend and/or be worthy to hold one.
  • Must be a returned missionary.
  • 6 months experience as an MTC teacher.
  • Preferred: 1 year of experience with teaching training or tutoring in any capacity.
  • Must be fluent in a non-native language (except for English or ESL area assignment).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of MTC language learning strategies and methodologies.
  • Must have a solid understanding of MTC training principles.
  • Must communicate effectively.
  • Must have technology skills to function effectively in the MTC environment.
  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and provides ongoing evaluation and development of teachers and missionaries.
  • Provides individual coaching and continuing in-service training of teachers.
  • Reports to the manager level in the Training Department.
  • Observes and evaluates missionaries and teachers.

Description

This position is central to the missionaries' role to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. Teacher Trainers are lead support-level individual contributors responsible for ensuring that in-residence missionaries receive effective training by leading teachers, conducting individual and group trainings, and facilitating ongoing improvement and coaching of teacher performance. It is expected that Teacher Trainers will assist in overseeing the work of 10-15 teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Trains and provides ongoing evaluation and development of teachers and missionaries.
  • Provides individual coaching and continuing in-service training of teachers through leading weekly meetings.
  • Reports to the manager level in the Training Department.
  • Provides teachers with materials and policy information.
  • Observes and evaluates missionaries and teachers.
  • Facilitates opportunities for teacher improvement according to needs.
  • Assists the Manager of Training in training new teachers prior to classroom experience.
  • Ensures teachers understand and effectively teach the approved MTC curriculum.
  • Leads in establishing updates or new MTC curriculum.
  • Fills in as a classroom teacher when needed.

Leads in advocating for missionary wellbeing

  • Evaluates missionary experience and performance.
  • Ensures the wellbeing of each missionary.
  • Leads teachers in providing for the individual needs of missionaries.
  • Leads teachers in creating an ideal learning environment.

Administrative Functions

  • Handles day-to-day supervisory matters, conferring with the Manager of Training regarding disciplinary issues.
  • Monitors teachers' progress and awards badges as outlined in the training teacher guidelines.
  • Coordinates with other Trainers regarding common employees.

Assists the Manager of Training

  • Reports missionary progress to the Manager of Training.
  • Reports teacher performance to the Manager of Training.
  • Assists in area training meetings.
  • Assists in coordinating training resources.
  • Provides recommendations for teacher performance improvement and remedial actions.

May be asked to assist in assessing the proficiency level of missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language.

May take on MTC Teacher responsibilities to teach missionaries as needs arise.

May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g., assisting with MTC administration, travel, and coordination of miscellaneous appointments for missionaries).

  • Demonstrates an encouraging attitude, proactivity, and self-motivation.
  • Physical requirements may include sitting for long periods and using monitors/equipment.
  • Must be able to work shifts.
