Placements24 is seeking a Research Scientist (Molecular Diagnostics) for a hybrid role in Upington. The position combines hands-on lab work with data analysis to develop and validate novel diagnostic assays.

The candidate will lead assay development (PCR, qPCR, sequencing-based methods), perform validation studies, and analyze data for reports. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and meticulous record-keeping are essential.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s in molecular biology/biochemistry/genetics or related field.
• Experience in development and validation of molecular diagnostic assays.
• Proficiency with nucleic acid extraction, amplification (PCR/qPCR), and possibly NGS.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize molecular diagnostic assays (PCR, qPCR, sequencing-based).
• Conduct validation studies to assess performance, sensitivity, specificity.
• Analyze data, interpret results, and contribute to technical reports.
• Collaborate with engineering and clinical teams to translate concepts into products.
• Troubleshoot issues and ensure project success.
• Maintain detailed records and adhere to quality standards.
