Job Description

ProSidian seeks a Mining Industry Engineer / Consultant located in Cape Town, South Africa to support an engagement for the U.S. Government International Technical Assistance Program (ITAP). The role provides technical, regulatory, environmental, and financial management support for national development on energy and non-energy resources. Key focus areas include policy and regulatory reform; technical, operational, and economic analysis; financial mechanisms and market creation; economic management, transparency, and fiscal policy; and environmental and social issues related to resource development. ProSidian offers training related to four Capacity Challenges: technical understanding of resources and new extractive technologies, financial management of sector revenues, legal best practices for international laws and regulations, and environmental protection for people and environment from sector impacts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advisory support on national oil, gas, and mining policy, laws, contracting, and regulation.
  • Support capacity-building in the oil, gas, and mining sectors and tools of government.
  • Assist stakeholders in strategies, training, and knowledge management to improve oil, gas, and mining strategic planning and operational oversight.
  • Strengthen environmental management and fiscal policy in oil, gas, and mining sectors.
  • Participate in a Community of Practice to promote the sharing of best practices and learning.
Qualifications

Leadership, communication, government financial management, budgeting, financial modeling, reporting, and presentations with at least 10 years performing Federal Government management inOil, Gas, Extractives, with specialty in management and operations, law, geology, policy, valuations, Corporate Finance, M&A, Energy Investments, Energy Development, Energy Infrastructure, Commodities Management, and Natural Resource markets.

Minimum requirements include:

  • 5–15 years of experience in Energy, Extractives, and/or Renewables, with 5 years in Mining Industry Engineering/Geosciences focusing on unconventional reservoirs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Industry Engineering/Geosciences or related field (Master’s or Ph.D. desirable; Ph.D. may substitute for 4 years of experience with a Master’s or 6 years with a Bachelor’s).
  • Training history of specialized courses; technical publications valued but practical experience is paramount.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across functions and deliver quick turnaround on management requests with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated expertise in economic evaluations and field development modeling; ability to manage multiple scenarios and sensitivities.
  • Experience with economic analysis of energy, extractives, and renewables deposits; knowledge of reservoir evaluation, decline curves, and discounted cash flow.
  • Understanding of petroleum reservoir systems and both conventional and unconventional completion, drilling, and production operations.
  • Software proficiency in decline curve analysis, rate transient analysis, or full field production modeling, with strong data management and visualization skills.
Professional Knowledge & Traits
  • Strong knowledge of unconventional development, sub-surface characterization, and field development planning; leadership to drive opportunities.
  • Ability to integrate business and technical judgment across disciplines and develop multiple field development scenarios.
  • Experience managing mining/energy operations with financial analysis and risk quantification.
  • Self-starter with good presentation skills and the ability to work with limited direction.
  • Results-oriented with project management skills and willingness to take calculated risks.
  • Understanding of variables impacting deliverability and recovery; knowledge of surface facilities, data workflows, and regulatory requirements.
