Job summary

The Auto Electrician role at University of Fort Hare involves maintenance, repair, installation and fault-finding of electrical systems on mining vehicles and mobile equipment. You will diagnose faults, test systems and ensure repairs meet manufacturer specifications.

We expect at least 3 years of post-trade experience, a relevant Auto Electrical Trade Test, and willingness to work shifts, overtime and standby as required in a mining environment.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric is required.
  • Auto Electrical Trade Test relevant to role.
  • Minimum 3 years' post-trade experience in mining or heavy equipment.
  • Experience on heavy-duty vehicles, mobile equipment or earthmoving machinery.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime and standby as required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventative and breakdown maintenance on mining vehicles and mobile equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults.
  • Inspect, test and maintain electrical systems and components.
  • Repair and maintain wiring, electrical harnesses, sensors, switches, relays and control systems.
  • Maintain starter motors, alternators and charging systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and manuals.
  • Install, repair and maintain lighting and other electrical systems.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and attend urgent repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures.
