Job summary

Network Contracting requires an experienced Auto Electrician to service electrical systems on heavy-duty vehicles and mining equipment in Johannesburg. You will diagnose faults, interpret wiring diagrams and ensure safe operation of equipment.

Responsibilities include preventive and breakdown maintenance, testing components with diagnostic tools, and collaborating with maintenance teams to resolve issues. A Red Seal qualification is required.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric is required.
• Auto Electrician Trade Test or Red Seal qualification.
• 35 years of relevant experience as an Auto Electrician.

• Carry out inspections and ensure equipment is safe and fit for operation.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and faults.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform electrical maintenance, repairs and fault-finding on vehicles and mobile equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
• Install, test and maintain vehicle wiring systems, lighting, batteries, alternators and starter motors.
• Maintain electrical systems on heavy-duty vehicles, earthmoving equipment and/or mining machinery.
• Conduct preventative and breakdown maintenance.
• Read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
• Test electrical components and circuits to identify faults.
• Repair and replace defective electrical components.
• Carry out inspections and ensure equipment is safe and fit for operation.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs and faults.
• Assist with the installation and commissioning of new electrical systems and equipment.
• Ensure all work is completed according to safety procedures, manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Work closely with Mechanical and Maintenance teams to resolve equipment-related problems.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Auto Electrician Trade Test / Red Seal qualification.
• 35 years' relevant experience as an Auto Electrician.
• Experience working on heavy-duty vehicles, mining equipment, earthmoving machinery or commercial vehicles will be advantageous.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
• Experience with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
• Knowledge of preventative and breakdown maintenance.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Mining experience and a valid medical fitness certificate will be advantageous where applicable.
