The Role

The Mining Activity Engineer reports to the Section Manager Planning.

Responsibilities Will Include But Not Limited To

1. Compiling designs, detailed plans and short-term schedules for major mining activities on the mine
2. Compiling weekly/monthly/quarterly and annual reconciliations for compliance with plan reporting
3. Providing required information for weekly marketing and management plans
4. Assisting in preparing weekly review (planning) meetings presentations and the monthly planning meeting
5. Liaising with other Activity Engineers regarding mine plan integration
6. Collaborating with departments such as Survey, Geology, Environmental, Mining, Metallurgy, and Engineering
7. Assisting with the annual budget/LOM process

Requirements

Qualification:

• National Diploma / Degree in Mining Engineering OR
• Relevant Opencast mining qualifications with recognition and recommendation for prior learning and experience

Experience:

• Minimum 6 years’ mining experience with at least 2 years in a relevant mining production environment as a supervisor OR 2 years relevant experience as Planning Officer
• Experience with Mine Planning software including XPAC, 3D-dig, Microstation, Talpac, Dragsim, Deswik
• Experience in assessing management principles around mining and related equipment and operational standards
• Experience in mine pit design, activity design (drill & blast, pre-stripping, dragline, truck & shovel, coaling), scheduling, machine performance
• Knowledge of legislation related to mining industry and procedures
• Ability to work under pressure and handle variable workload
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required
• Strong analytical skills
• Financial budgeting skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• High regard for safety
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Valid driver’s license and own transport
• Possession or ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

• Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency
