Job description

Our client is seeking a Mine Automobile Engineer to join their Zambian team. The position is part of the Mining Department and will head the team responsible for managing the Company’s fleet of Heavy Equipment Machinery and Light Vehicles. The goal is to achieve at least 85% equipment availability to support production and other departments in meeting their targets, while maintaining high safety, maintenance standards, and compliance with statutory and domestic regulations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performance Management: Implement team performance management systems under guidance from senior colleagues.
  2. Operational Management: Provide operational support and act as first-line supervisor using existing systems and protocols.
  3. Leadership and Direction: Manage others and work within established systems to deliver outcomes.
  4. Data Collection & Analysis: Independently collate and analyze data using predetermined tools and methods.
  5. Compliance: Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements in compliance processes and procedures.
  6. Budgeting & Costing: Deliver prescribed budgets and analyze budget progress within established systems.
  7. Installation, Maintenance, and Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform preventive maintenance on equipment; assist in setting up new systems.
  8. Improvement / Innovation: Identify process shortcomings, suggest improvements, and assist in change management initiatives.
  9. Policy Development & Implementation: Develop and monitor the implementation of procedures within the area of expertise.
  10. Health & Safety: Maintain a safe working environment, actively report hazards, use PPE, and promote safety culture.

Additionally, the role involves managing a large automobile and mechanical workshop, planning and organizing preventive maintenance, leading a team of mechanics, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and maintaining environmental safety standards.

  • Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia
  • Registered Engineer with the Engineering Regulation Board
  • Possession of a Class C Driving License is advantageous

Experience required includes at least 8 years in a reputable workshop with 3 years in a managerial role. Proficiency in MS Office and design/planning software is also required.
