Job description

My client, a giant in the manufacturing industry, has an excellent position available for a Top-Notch Millwright at their factory based in Vereeniging. MUST have solid knowledge, skills, and experience in clay preparations, working on ball mills, pumps, motors, etc. Must have a recognized Millwright trade as well as being multi-skilled in fitting and basic electrical (done through a recognized apprenticeship). Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and post-trade test experience are required. This is a demanding role, and we are looking for the best of the best.

Key Responsibilities :
  1. Create and maintain a safe & healthy working environment in the department.
  2. Ensure asset availability conforms to KPIs.
  3. Maintain equipment in standard condition through asset management.
  4. Manage maintenance budgets financially.
  5. Handle consumable and critical spares requests, updates, and verification.
  6. Conduct daily line inspections and repairs.
  7. Perform PRAGMA inspections, breakdowns, and preventative maintenance.
  8. Develop and execute shutdown action plans.
  9. Serve as safety custodian for the area of responsibility and ensure compliance.
  10. Allocate resources for shutdowns.
  11. Participate in standby duties and call-outs.
  12. Maintain general housekeeping and ensure OHSAct compliance.
  13. Record and achieve set KPIs.
  14. Implement waste reduction and elimination strategies.
  15. Train department maintenance team and process controllers.
  16. Engage in rebuild and continuous improvement projects.
  17. Report unsafe acts and conditions.
  18. Ensure process controllers adhere to process control standards.
  19. Maintain plant standards and safety procedures.
  20. Maintain production machines, electrical machines, and electronic control gear.
  21. React to breakdowns promptly.
  22. Diagnose, fault find, and repair equipment failures to minimize downtime.
  23. Dismantle, fault detect, and repair machinery.
  24. Rebuild, reconstruct, and install machinery.
  25. Propose modifications for better performance or safety.
  26. Control Job Card information and conduct checks.
  27. Participate in developing, implementing, and maintaining preventative maintenance systems.
Further essential responsibilities :
  1. Diagnose, fault find, and repair equipment failures to minimize downtime.
  2. Maintain test equipment.
  3. Carry out shift work as per roster.
  4. Perform planned maintenance to standards.
  5. Update drawings accurately.
  6. Attend training courses as required.
  7. Cover for other multi-skilled artisans during leave or training.
  8. Install electrical and mechanical equipment.
  9. Liaise with production and engineering staff.
  10. Coach operators on operating practices and autonomous maintenance.
  11. Suggest improvements within operations.
  12. Participate in shift teams and focus groups.
  13. Report unsafe acts and conditions.
  14. Prepare shift reports and ensure proper handovers.
  15. Adhere to environmental policies and procedures.
  16. Maintain good housekeeping.
  17. Investigate incidents and identify root causes.
  18. Understand SHEQ requirements.
  19. Attend to electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation breakdowns.
  20. Fault find in electrical, mechanical, PLCs, VSDs, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  21. Read and interpret schematic drawings.
  22. Follow isolation and lock-out procedures.
  23. Work on overhead cranes, electro-pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic auto electrical systems.
Required Minimum Qualification / Experience :
  1. Millwright Trade Test Certificate (Mechanical & Electrical).
  2. Computer literate.
  3. SAP spares ordering experience.
  4. Mechanically sound and electrically strong.
  5. PLC experience.
  6. Hands-on approach and pride in work.
  7. Commitment to product quality.
  8. Ability to plan, organize, and control costs.
  9. Minimum 5 years as a qualified artisan in maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
  10. Programming and fault-finding skills.
  11. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  12. Experience with cement manufacturing and packaging equipment is advantageous.
