Qualifications

• 5 years’ experience in heavy industry required.

• N4 Electro-Mechanical Certificate is essential.

Job description

Well-established automotive company based in Durban is seeking a qualified and experienced Millwright to join their dynamic team. The applicant will be responsible for conducting mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs on plant and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements :

• Grade 12 with mathematics and science
• Section 13 red seal Millwright trade test
• N4 electro-mechanical certificate
• 5 years’ experience in heavy industry

KPI's :

Maintenance Process (Scheduled Preventative Maintenance) :

1. Receive maintenance schedules, plan, and execute before they expire. Interpret instructions and plan maintenance and repair work.
2. Inspect tooling and determine spares and consumables requirements.
3. Generate job requisitions for scheduled maintenance work (type of repair or maintenance, spares, quantities, time, etc.).
4. Transport tools, equipment, and spares to the work site.
5. Isolate equipment, perform lockouts, complete the LOTO register, and make the work area safe.
6. Complete the Contractors Permit to Work before contractors commence work on site.
7. Conduct preventive maintenance activities.
8. Perform changeovers in the production environment.
9. Count stock for a stock take integrity check, checking spares condition during the count.
10. Record all scheduled maintenance in the Maintenance Connection system in a timely manner to prolong equipment life and prevent unplanned maintenance.
11. Maintain housekeeping standards in the workshop and work area, adhering to 5S standards.
12. Perform plant start-ups, planning well in advance to ensure readiness for production.
13. Track and record personal daily hours to achieve the KPI of 75% artisan utilization.

Maintenance Process (Breakdown) :

1. Attend to machine breakdowns of mechanical/electrical nature for all equipment under engineering control.
2. Update responsible persons on repair progress.
3. Escalate unresolved problems or breakdowns.
4. Record all breakdowns in the Maintenance Connection system to aid root cause analysis and KPI calculation.

Mechanical Maintenance :

1. Perform routine maintenance, align machines, diagnose and repair faults during production.
2. Commission and refurbish machines/equipment.
3. Operate and monitor various machines like drilling, lathe, milling, surface grinding, and EDM to produce components.
4. Perform welding and grinding tasks as required.
5. Maintain mechanical equipment including drives, piping, seals, bearings, brakes, clutches, heat exchangers, pumps, conveyor systems, compressors, and gearboxes.

Electrical Maintenance :

1. Design and construct electrical circuits, install wiring, and fault find on low and high voltage systems.
2. Install, inspect, test, and replace electrical equipment.
3. Troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (Siemens) and ABB Robots, and program ABB Robots.

Fabrication :

1. Cut, drill, punch, and assemble fabrication materials using powered machinery.
2. Perform manual cutting, resistance welding, and various welding techniques.
3. Remove metals using oxy-fuel and arc gouging processes.

Instrumentation Maintenance :

1. Construct electronic circuits, install impulse lines, and maintain instrumentation equipment for flow, level, pressure, and temperature.
2. Perform soldering and de-soldering procedures.

Post Maintenance :

1. Test and commission machinery prior to handover.
2. Complete maintenance records and communicate work status.
3. Identify additional work or spares needed and inform relevant personnel.
4. Clean up and inform responsible persons upon completion.

Material Handling :

1. Sling loads, operate cranes, hoists, and forklifts.

Engineering Projects :

1. Contribute to project initiation, scope, and change control.
2. Assist in cost estimation, monitoring, and control.

Project Planning and Management :

1. Schedule, evaluate, and communicate project schedules.
2. Manage project risks and supervise technical project teams if requested.

Project Administration :

1. Support project meetings and workshops.

Continuous Improvement :

1. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Reporting :

1. Complete maintenance timesheets detailing work, time, and materials used.
