Tetra Tech is adding a Mid-level Hazard Mitigation Planner to our Emergency Management Risk & Resilience team based in a remote capacity.

The Mid-Level Hazard Mitigation Planner will be a key part of Tetra Tech's national mitigation and resilience practice. This role requires a strong understanding of community resilience, climate adaptation, hazard mitigation, risk assessment, nature-based solutions, social equity, decision support tools, risk communication, and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities include managing staff, developing high-quality deliverables, ensuring client satisfaction, and growing the practice through new and repeat clients. The ideal candidate will have strong technical and communication skills, knowledge of climate change impacts, and experience in hazard mitigation and resilience planning.
Work with communities and counties to facilitate DMA-hazard mitigation plan updates. Develop and coordinate input for mitigation and adaptation plans. Support local government outreach and facilitate meetings. Interpret risk assessment results and communicate findings in written plans. Review local plans, ordinances, and policies, updating hazard mitigation plans accordingly. Identify mitigation projects to reduce hazard risks. Conduct capacity-building activities, including developing decision support tools and community engagement. Collaborate with clients and supervise/mentor junior planners. Liaise with technical professionals on project development. Conduct outreach and stakeholder engagement activities. Assist in preparing planning documents, reports, and visualizations. Analyze socio-economic, land use, demographic, environmental, and climate data. Support business development efforts to grow the climate resilience practice. Identify new markets and funding sources for adaptation projects. Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and team to ensure satisfaction. Ensure activities comply with procedures, legislation, and standards. Engage in continuous professional development and maintain technical expertise. Work safely and report health and safety incidents. Perform additional duties as required.
- Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Sustainability, Climate Change, Resilience, Public Policy, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3+ years of experience in mitigation and resilience planning, land use, risk assessment, climate hazards, funding mechanisms, and related policies.
- Certification by AICP or working toward certification is a plus.
- Writing sample required.
- Experience with SB and SB plans.
- Experience with city comprehensive plans and wildfire planning.
- Willingness to travel up to 30%.
- Valid driver's license required.
