We are looking for a Mid-Level Full Stack Engineer to join a Development/TechOps team in Johannesburg. This role is ideal for an engineer who is strong on the frontend, comfortable working across the broader application stack, and experienced in taking production features from development through deployment.
You will build and ship production features using React and Next.js, collaborate closely with the Laravel backend team on API contracts, contribute to code reviews, and troubleshoot complex issues across the browser and Node/SSR environment.
This is a hands‑on engineering role with responsibility for delivering reliable, scalable solutions while contributing to the quality of the wider engineering team.
Build and ship production features using React and Next.js.
Develop fast, reliable, and maintainable frontend interfaces.
Work across the application stack to deliver features end‑to‑end.
Implement effective state management and application architecture.
Work with server‑side rendering, hydration, caching, and related frontend performance considerations.
Collaborate closely with the Laravel backend team on API contracts.
Ensure effective communication between frontend and backend systems.
Contribute to the integration of frontend features with backend services.
Review frontend pull requests from peers and junior engineers.
Provide constructive technical feedback through code reviews.
Follow established engineering and Git workflows.
Contribute to maintaining reliable and maintainable production code.
Investigate and resolve production issues across the browser and Node/SSR stack.
Diagnose application, rendering, caching, and state‑management issues.
Use appropriate development and testing tools to validate fixes.
Support reliable production performance across the application.
Develop and maintain end‑to‑end tests using Playwright.
Work with Linux command‑line tools as part of development and troubleshooting.
Work with AWS services including EC2, RDS, S3, and IAM.
Support application deployment and infrastructure requirements within the engineering environment.
Strong experience with React and Next.js.
Strong TypeScript skills.
Practical understanding of server‑side rendering (SSR) and hydration.
Experience with frontend caching and performance considerations.
Strong understanding of state management using tools such as Zustand, Redux, or Context API.
Experience building and shipping production frontend features.
Experience debugging applications in the browser and Node/SSR environments.
Experience with Playwright and end‑to‑end testing.
Strong understanding of Git and modern software development workflows.
Comfortable working with the Linux command line.
Practical experience with AWS, particularly EC2, RDS, S3, and IAM.
Ability to collaborate effectively with backend engineers on API contracts.
Strong code‑review and peer‑collaboration skills.
Laravel / PHP experience.
MySQL or MariaDB experience.
Experience with React Native or mobile development.
Kotlin experience.
Experience with BigQuery.
Familiarity with PM2, Nginx, and Node process management.
