Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technician to join the Port Elizabeth Microbiology department. You will perform routine tests, maintain equipment, and support diagnostic testing and research activities in a busy lab.

You'll work under strict quality control and safety standards, document results in the LIS, and assist with inventory. A National Diploma or Bachelors in MLS/Microbiology is required, with strong attention to detail and teamwork.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, or related field.
• Experience as Laboratory Technician, preferably in clinical or research microbiology.
• Proficiency in standard microbiology techniques and aseptic methods.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety and quality control procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine microbiological tests, including cultures, staining, and sensitivity testing.
• Prepare media, reagents, and stains required for laboratory procedures.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, microscopes, and autoclaves.
• Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance procedures.
• Accurately record and report test results in the laboratory information system.
• Assist in inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents.
