Job summary

Eriez in South Africa is seeking a Metallurgical Process Technician to conduct test work and related activities aimed at developing, selling and supporting Eriez technology across Africa.

You will plan in-house and on-site metallurgical test programs, assist in flotation equipment installations, and prepare technical and commercial reports while ensuring safe working practices and effective collaboration with engineers.

Qualifications

• Diploma/degree in process, chemical or metallurgical engineering is required or advantageous.
• B-Tech degree or related is advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years related experience.
• Experience in laboratory and pilot test campaigns.
• Experience in industrial metallurgical plants (mineral processing) preferred.
• Proficient in MS Office and travel willingness locally and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute in-house and on-site metallurgical test work programs at laboratory and pilot scales, including data analysis and reporting.
• Participate in the installation, commissioning, operation and optimisation of flotation equipment at customer sites.
• Prepare samples for chemical analysis and record relevant data.
• Document process events and prepare technical and commercial proposals for test programs.
• Ensure a safe work environment and adherence to SOPs and Safe Work Practices.
• Assist Engineers in project management from cradle-to-grave including proposal development and final reports.
• Support customers to operate, troubleshoot and optimise Eriez technology on-site.
• Assist with technical problem solving and innovative solutions; contribute to sales calls and customer presentations.
• Prepare operating and maintenance manuals and training materials.
• Evaluate prototype and full-scale equipment at external labs and client sites; validate flow sheets and treatment techniques.

Job description

To conduct test work and related activities aimed to develop, sell and support Eriez technology primarily to the African market using technical sales techniques for new and existing projects. The Metallurgical Process Technician will support Eriez Engineers to promote sound, innovative and/or unconventional means of achieving the customer's objectives in the most cost-effective manner possible.

• National Diploma Process / Chemical / Metallurgical Engineering.
• B- Tech degree or related is advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years related experience.
• Experience and exposure in executing laboratory and pilot test campaigns.
• Experience and exposure in industrial metallurgical plants (mineral processing, especially flotation and magnetics but not limited).
• Proficient in MS Office
• Ability to travel both locally and internationally to clients sites when required.

Key Job Outputs

• Planning and executing in-house and on-site metallurgical test work programs at laboratory and pilot scales, including data analysis and reporting.
• Participate in the installation, commissioning, operation, and optimisation of flotation equipment at customer sites.
• Participate in sampling campaigns and preparation of the samples for chemical analysis.
• Accurately record all relevant technical data for tests campaigns (laboratory or pilot).
• Document all process events related to Eriez technology/ installed equipment during plant audits.
• Prepare and submit quality technical reports within agreed timelines. Preparation of technical and commercial proposals for test programs and equipment.
• Ensure a safe work environment through high housekeeping standards, safe work procedures, incident/accident reporting and active involvement in safety programs and meetings.
• Actively maintain knowledge of and compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Work Practices.
• Assist Eriez Engineers in the general management of customer projects from ‘cradle-to-grave’ including proposal development, contract negotiations, project test plan development/execution/project management and final report preparation/presentation.
• Assist the client to operate, troubleshoot and optimisation Eriez installed technology.. Full-scale, on-site trouble shooting of existing and prototype equipment.
• Assist as required to solve customer technical problems and recommend innovative solutions.
• Sales and marketing including customer presentations and technical sales calls.
• Assist in preparation of Operating and Maintenance manuals and prepare training materials.
• Evaluation and testing of prototype and full-scale equipment at external labs and customer sites.
• Provide support for development and validation of flow sheets and treatment techniques including equipment sizing
