Our client in the medical aid industry, based in Pretoria, is seeking a Medical Aid Executive: Legal and Compliance.

  • LLB or BA Law, Admission as Attorney / Practicing Advocate

Department / Unit: Governance, Compliance & Legal Services

Reporting to: Principal Officer

Direct Reports: Manager: Compliance & Legal Services, Administrator: Compliance

Purpose of the Role: Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Governance, Compliance & Legal Services Department, ensuring the organization meets legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements. Support the Board of Trustees and senior leadership with expert guidance on compliance, legal, and governance matters.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and align departmental plans with organizational goals; design compliance, governance, and legal frameworks and policies; collaborate with the executive team for integrated planning.
  2. Legal Advisory Services: Provide legal advice, manage litigation, contracts, disputes; draft and review legal documents, scheme rules, and compliance strategies; lead litigation and represent the organization at tribunals.
  3. Compliance Oversight: Develop and maintain compliance and ethical systems; monitor legislative changes; train stakeholders and promote a compliance culture.
  4. Governance Support: Prepare governance frameworks, manage secretariat services, organize the AGM, and conduct governance training.
  5. Budget & Stakeholder Management: Oversee departmental budgets, manage external relationships, develop staff, and foster a high-performance culture.
Qualifications & Experience
  • LLB or BA Law, Admission as Attorney / Practicing Advocate
  • Postgraduate qualification in compliance or governance is advantageous
  • 10+ years in Legal, Risk, and Compliance, with 5+ years in senior management
  • Medical Aid industry experience preferred
