Placements24 is seeking a Senior Medical Affairs Manager based in Paarl, Western Cape, to lead medical strategies and engage with KOLs. The role translates scientific data into clinical value and ensures accurate medical communications across the product portfolio.

The ideal candidate holds an MD/DO/PhD (or PharmD with medical affairs experience) and has 5–7 years in medical affairs, with strong leadership, presentation, and regulatory knowledge. English proficiency is essential.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of progressive medical affairs experience in pharma/biotech.
• Proven track record in developing and executing medical strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the region's medical affairs strategy in alignment with global medical objectives.
• Identify, engage, and build strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), investigators, and medical experts.
• Provide scientific and medical support for product-related activities, including clinical trials, medical education programs, and scientific exchange.
• Review and approve promotional and non-promotional materials to ensure medical accuracy and compliance.
• Develop and deliver scientific presentations and training to internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development of medical communication plans and disease area strategies.
• Oversee the medical aspects of investigator-initiated studies (IIS) and support clinical research activities.
• Monitor the scientific and clinical landscape, identifying opportunities and potential risks.
• Ensure adherence to all relevant pharmaceutical industry codes, regulations, and company policies.
• Participate in medical advisory boards and scientific congresses.

Requirements

• Medical degree (MD, DO) or Ph.D. in a relevant life science discipline. A Pharm.D. with significant medical affairs experience will also be considered.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Proven track record of developing and executing successful medical affairs strategies.
• Extensive experience in engaging with KOLs and managing relationships with the medical community.
• Strong understanding of clinical trial design, execution, and data analysis.
• Excellent knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations, compliance requirements, and industry codes of conduct.
• Exceptional presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to think strategically and translate complex scientific information into clear, actionable insights.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is an asset.
