Job summary

Ilembe District Municipality is seeking a Communications professional to lead media relations, draft communications content, and build strong media partnerships across multiple platforms. The role focuses on enhancing public visibility of municipal programmes and service delivery through strategic media engagement.

The incumbent will monitor media trends, prepare analyses, and identify opportunities to promote achievements while supporting crisis and emergency communication efforts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement media relations plans and initiatives supporting the Municipality's communications objectives.
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with journalists, editors, broadcasters and other media stakeholders.
• Coordinate and manage media enquiries, interview requests, press conferences and media briefings.
• Draft, edit and distribute media releases, statements, feature articles and speeches for publication.
• Facilitate positive media coverage of municipal programmes, events and service delivery initiatives.
• Monitor media coverage across print, broadcast, digital and social platforms and prepare analyses.
• Identify media opportunities and promote municipal achievements via appropriate media channels.
