We're looking for experienced Mechanical Technicians to assist the Maintenance Engineer and Foremen by carrying out legal compliance inspections, mechanical project work, maintenance tasks, technical investigations, and management tasks.
As a Mechanical Technician, your responsibilities will include:
- Drawing up and updating technical specifications, procedures, Capital and Renewal applications, and enquiry documents.
- Adjudicating quotations and participating in the selection of successful contractors.
- Managing Capital and Renewal projects.
- Updating plant mechanical drawings in consultation with plant Foremen.
- Conducting technical investigations and feasibility studies, investigating maintenance problems, and producing reports with recommendations.
- Providing specialist maintenance skills (SME) for specific plant and equipment.
- Fault finding on plant and equipment to meet OEM specifications.
- Addressing faults causing production stoppages or reduced capacity.
- Working independently while keeping the Engineer informed.
- Assisting with plant breakdowns and standby duties.
- Coordinating statutory inspections (structural, pressure vessel, pressurized systems, etc.).
- Observing safety policies under OHS Act and IRCA.
- Utilizing Sappi's systems for maintenance execution.
- Assisting in preparing the maintenance budget.
- Executing work during plant shuts and supervising during shutdowns.
- Investigating root causes of failures and implementing solutions.
- Identifying and executing cost-saving projects.
- Conducting plant inspections and lockout audits.
- Reviewing and optimizing maintenance schedules.
- Developing maintenance schedules for new equipment.
- Developing best practices and QCPs.
- Performing mill-wide standby duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- NQF6: N. Diploma / NH Dip. in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3-5 years of practical experience.
- Pulp and Paper industry experience is advantageous.
