Job description

We're looking for experienced Mechanical Technicians to assist the Maintenance Engineer and Foremen by carrying out legal compliance inspections, mechanical project work, maintenance tasks, technical investigations, and management tasks.

As a Mechanical Technician, your responsibilities will include:

1. Drawing up and updating technical specifications, procedures, Capital and Renewal applications, and enquiry documents.
2. Adjudicating quotations and participating in the selection of successful contractors.
3. Managing Capital and Renewal projects.
4. Updating plant mechanical drawings in consultation with plant Foremen.
5. Conducting technical investigations and feasibility studies, investigating maintenance problems, and producing reports with recommendations.
6. Providing specialist maintenance skills (SME) for specific plant and equipment.
7. Fault finding on plant and equipment to meet OEM specifications.
8. Addressing faults causing production stoppages or reduced capacity.
9. Working independently while keeping the Engineer informed.
10. Assisting with plant breakdowns and standby duties.
11. Coordinating statutory inspections (structural, pressure vessel, pressurized systems, etc.).
12. Observing safety policies under OHS Act and IRCA.
13. Utilizing Sappi's systems for maintenance execution.
14. Assisting in preparing the maintenance budget.
15. Executing work during plant shuts and supervising during shutdowns.
16. Investigating root causes of failures and implementing solutions.
17. Identifying and executing cost-saving projects.
18. Conducting plant inspections and lockout audits.
19. Reviewing and optimizing maintenance schedules.
20. Developing maintenance schedules for new equipment.
21. Developing best practices and QCPs.
22. Performing mill-wide standby duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

• NQF6: N. Diploma / NH Dip. in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3-5 years of practical experience.
• Pulp and Paper industry experience is advantageous.
