Placements24 is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician for our client’s plant maintenance team in Richards Bay. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair mechanical failures, and contribute to safety and efficiency of the facility.

The ideal candidate has a hands-on mechanical aptitude with experience in industrial maintenance, including pumps, valves, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification (e.g., N3 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent).
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Technician in an industrial plant environment.
• Proficiency in machining, welding, and fitting.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on industrial machinery such as pumps, compressors, and valves.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns, identify root causes and implement solutions.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.

About the Role

Our client requires a skilled Mechanical Technician to join their plant maintenance team in Richards Bay . This role is critical for ensuring the reliable operation of complex machinery and equipment within their industrial facility. You will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical failures, and contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the plant. The ideal candidate will be a hands‑on individual with a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in an industrial maintenance setting, particularly within the oil and gas or chemical processing sectors. Your work will directly impact operational uptime and equipment longevity.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance on a variety of industrial machinery, including pumps, compressors, and valves.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical breakdowns, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings , blueprints, and equipment manuals.
• Install, align, and calibrate mechanical equipment as per specifications.
• Conduct inspections and report on the condition of plant equipment.
• Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental procedures.

Requirements
