Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with HVAC specialization.
• 5+ years of experience in HVAC design and engineering.

• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and building science.
• Familiarity with building codes and energy efficiency standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer HVAC systems including AHUs, chillers, boilers, ductwork and controls.
• Perform load calculations, airflow analysis and energy modeling.
• Specify HVAC equipment and components per project requirements.
• Develop P&IDs, schematics, specifications and construction drawings.
• Coordinate with project teams during installation, commissioning and testing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC performance and maintenance issues.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Mechanical Systems Engineer with expertise in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) to join their team in Stellenbosch . This role involves the design, implementation, and optimization of complex HVAC systems for commercial and industrial applications, ensuring energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and compliance with building codes. You will work collaboratively with architects, project managers, and construction teams to deliver integrated mechanical solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineer HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, ductwork, and controls, using CAD software .
• Perform load calculations, airflow analysis, and energy modeling to optimize system performance and efficiency.
• Specify HVAC equipment, materials, and components, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
• Develop detailed design documents, including P&IDs, schematics, specifications, and construction drawings.
• Coordinate with project teams during installation, commissioning, and testing phases to ensure successful system implementation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to HVAC system performance and maintenance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a specialization in HVAC.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design and engineering of HVAC systems.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., Revit MEP , AutoCAD MEP , Trace 700) and CFD analysis is a plus.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and building science principles.
• Knowledge of relevant building codes, standards (e.g., ASHRAE), and energy efficiency regulations.
