POSITION INFO :

The position of the Mechanical Manager consists of planning, organizing, leading & taking control of your working environment and managing the mechanical department. The role of a Mechanical Manager means that you are accountable within your working environment in ensuring all your actions are in accordance with company policies, quality standards, relevant codes & the requirements of your position.

The key tasks & responsibilities for this position are to :

1. Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances, & enforce safety and sanitation regulations.
2. Confer with other managers and supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments focusing on the overall management and running of various mechanical departments.
3. Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and production / construction problems.
4. Inspect, implement and review projects to monitor compliance with progress claims, project programs, materials procurement, cost tracking, timekeeping of staff, project / SHE file updates, updating & maintaining company & project programs, redlining of drawings etc.
5. Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned within the production / mechanical and maintenance of structures, facilities, equipment and systems.
6. Carry out stock orders, work packs; design, pricing & order processing of various projects, NCR’s & internal auditing, research & development of new innovative ways to improve products, estimating duties, CNC training & assistance, company designs, and provide preliminary designs and cost estimates for materials and services.
7. Design schematic drawings utilizing software such as CAD, such as Inventor and Lantek.
8. Schedule the project in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
9. Take actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies affecting projects and or works.
10. Demonstrate equipment operations and work and safety procedures to new employees, or assign employees to experienced workers for training as well as directing and coordinating the activities of employees engaged in the production & construction works, such as artisans, semi-skilled assistants etc.
11. Supervise and manage the work of staff, or subcontractors to ensure adherence to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures, correcting errors or problems and ensuring company policies are adhered to as well as resolving customer complaints and answering customers' questions regarding policies and procedures.
12. Provide employees with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving escalated complaints or disputes.
13. Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions, & interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers, as well as carrying out site repairs.
14. Observe work and monitor to ensure that works conform to production & construction standards.
15. Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production / construction sequences to meet production / construction goals.
16. Read and analyse charts, work orders, schedules, and other records and reports to determine work requirements and to evaluate current production / construction estimates and outputs.
17. Pro-active ‘hands-on’ transfer of skill and training of employees in job duties and company policies as directed by the company or arrange for training to be provided.
18. Carry out any physical work (on the tools) required and/or to assist employees in meeting target deadlines, project timeframes and/or staff shortages.
19. Implementation, maintenance and review of mechanical department quality control. Completion of paperwork, carrying out inspections and review of others' work to ensure that manufactured according to company standards.
20. Direct, assist and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical & mechanical works.
21. Inspect electrical & mechanical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
22. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
23. Maintain knowledge of your industry & ensure constant growth of such knowledge as well as sharing such knowledge with others for the benefit & efficiency of the company.
24. Perform business management duties such as ensuring all relevant paperwork is up-to-date, maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment etc.
25. Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair various works.
26. Provide assistance during emergencies when required (e.g. being on standby 24/7 & to assist whether afterhours and/or on weekends).
27. Confer & enforce budget constraints, material estimating and controlling.
28. Meeting target deadlines and carry out all tasks instructed competently.
29. Entertaining clients when required & being a link as a customer liaison by marketing all services rendered by the company.
30. Maintenance checks, cleaning and upkeep of vehicles and tools as well as cleaning and maintaining work areas.

The key educational requirements and experience for this position would be :

1. Trade or equivalent Diploma in Mechanical design.
2. Supervisory Qualification or Equivalent.
3. 5 - 10 years’ experience in the field.
4. Experience in managing a department of more than 20 employees.
5. Read, write & computer literate.
6. Driver’s license.
7. Ability to manage one’s own time and the time of others, to give full attention to what other people are saying, and to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
8. Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work and identify the best people for the job.
9. To be fit, healthy & of sober mind, reliable and accountable.
10. You are required to be on standby & work long hours when required & to assist accordingly.
