Job description

We currently looking for a Mechanical Foreman who will be responsible for overseeing mechanical maintenance, repair, and optimization of machinery and equipment in an automotive manufacturing or maintenance facility. The Foreman will also ensure efficient operations, minimize downtime, and lead a team of mechanics and technicians to uphold safety and quality standards. The client or Company that is based in Camperdown (KZN)

Minimum Requirements :

  • Trade Test Certification (Mechanical Fitter).
  • N4 / N6 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Foreman or similar role in the automotive industry.
  • Strong background in mechanical maintenance within an automotive production or maintenance facility.

Skills & Competencies :

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical faults quickly.
  • Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, CMMS software.
  • Key Responsibilities :

  • Supervise and coordinate a team of mechanical technicians, fitters, and artisans.
  • Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical guidance.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, such as conveyors, presses, hydraulic systems, and robotic arms.
  • Ensure adherence to preventative maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the electrical and automation teams to ensure efficient plant operations.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards.
  • Maintain adherence to IATF 16949 (if applicable) and ISO quality standards.
  • Implement best practices in automotive manufacturing processes.
  • Enforce strict adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, OHSACT).
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure the safe operation of all mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE and adherence to lockout / tagout procedures.
  • Monitor stock levels of mechanical spares and consumables.
  • Liaise with suppliers for procurement of necessary parts and equipment.
  • Manage and control maintenance costs within the budget.
  • Identify areas for process and efficiency improvements.
  • Maintain records of maintenance work, downtime analysis, and equipment performance.
  • Provide reports to senior management on maintenance KPIs and incidents
