Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Fitter & Turner – Injection Moulding
Reports To: Team Lead-Autonomous/Equipment Maintenance
Department: Maintenance


The Mechanical Fitter & Turner installs, maintains, and repairs injection moulding and assembly machines, along with auxiliary equipment like pumps and compressors. This role involves troubleshooting mechanical issues, ensuring efficient machinery operation, and contributing to continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has experience with automated machinery, strong problem-solving skills, and a focus on safety compliance.

Education, Experience & Required Skills:

  • Red Seal Fitter & Turner with a National Senior Certificate N4 or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in fitting and machining, operating lathes, and working with injection moulding processes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, proficiency in technical drawings, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to lift and move parts, work in various environments, and flexibility for overtime or shift work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production: Maintain machine settings for optimal output, assist in operator training, and ensure machines are operational by the shift's end.
  • Installation & Assembly: Assemble and install machines per technical drawings, ensuring precise alignment.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Perform inspections, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and repair problematic machine parts, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
  • Turning & Machining: Operate lathes and milling machines, manufacture and repair components, and ensure precision per engineering drawings.
  • Quality Assurance: Test and calibrate equipment, conduct quality checks, and implement continuous improvement practices.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines, ensuring all safety systems function correctly.
  • Documentation: Maintain records of maintenance work and report issues with suggestions for improvement.
  • Collaboration: Work with production and quality teams to minimize downtime and enhance efficiency.
