Job Description

NOV Africa is seeking a qualified and experienced Structural Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Gqeberha. In this role, you will contribute to the design and documentation of mechanical structures for equipment serving both new and established markets. You will work closely with a team of mechanical designers, engineers, and senior technical staff within a center of excellence for 2D and 3D mechanical design. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality work on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

1. Perform detailed structural designs in line with NOV guidelines.
2. Create production-ready mechanical drawings.
3. Collaborate with internal teams including electrical, hydraulic, controls, safety, and calculations.
4. Contribute to the development of project documentation.
5. Support technical discussions with workshops, subcontractors, and site teams.
6. Stay current with industry regulations and standards.
7. Analyze data to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for process improvement.
8. Define tasks and project scope accurately.
9. Ensure optimal use of resources and efficient workflows.
10. Break work into structured process steps and manage changes effectively.
11. Monitor project progress and performance against set goals.
12. Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs).

Qualifications & Experience

1. National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture (or equivalent practical experience) – Essential.
2. Proven experience in mechanical structural design, including machine elements, tolerances, materials selection, and welding – Essential.

Skills & Competencies

1. Solid understanding of mechanical construction techniques.
2. Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., NX, AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo).
3. Strong collaboration and communication skills.
4. Experience in the Oil & Gas or structural design industry is highly advantageous.
5. Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as within a team.
