Job description

NOV Africa is seeking a qualified and experienced Structural Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Gqeberha . In this role, you will contribute to the design and documentation of mechanical structures for equipment serving both new and established markets. You will work closely with a team of mechanical designers, engineers, and senior technical staff within a center of excellence for 2D and 3D mechanical design. Our team is committed to delivering high-quality work on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform detailed structural designs in line with NOV guidelines
  • Create production-ready mechanical drawings
  • Collaborate with internal teams including electrical, hydraulic, controls, safety, and calculations
  • Contribute to the development of project documentation
  • Support technical discussions with workshops, subcontractors, and site teams
  • Stay current with industry regulations and standards
  • Analyze data to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for process improvement
  • Define tasks and project scope accurately
  • Ensure optimal use of resources and efficient workflows
  • Break work into structured process steps and manage changes effectively
  • Monitor project progress and performance against set goals
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs)

Qualifications & Experience :

  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture (or equivalent practical experience) – Essential
  • Proven experience in mechanical structural design, including tolerances, materials selection, and welding – Essential
  • Solid understanding of mechanical construction techniques
  • Proficient with 2D and 3D CAD software (., NX, AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Creo)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas or structural design industry is highly advantageous
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as within a team
