Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Maintenance

Location: Sasolburg

Business Unit: Maintenance Facility

Reporting To: Maintenance Leader

We are seeking a results-driven Mechanical Engineer – Maintenance with a strong balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application in a chemical or industrial setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring plant reliability through advanced maintenance engineering practices and strategic support. This individual should be capable of leading without positional power, thrive in a culture built on accountability and excellence, and be committed to building trust and setting others up for success.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B-Eng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • GCC (Government Certificate of Competency) preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • 5–8 years’ operations maintenance experience in a chemical or industrial environment.
  • Solid knowledge of plant legislative requirements (e.g., Pressurized Equipment Regulations, SIL, Ex).
  • Proven experience applying Improve Reliability Techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as subject matter expert during root cause investigations for equipment failures and repairs.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting support and evaluate equipment capabilities.
  • Ensure engineering input on repair work, including materials, tolerances, and procedures.
  • Document repairs and training relevant to specific equipment.
  • Support the procurement process by advising on parts specification and selection.
  • Contribute to maintenance planning and scope development for complex jobs and turnarounds.
  • Review and optimize spare parts inventory with MRO.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance procedures aligned with equipment strategy.
  • Analyze Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) results and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Provide data and insights for maintenance budgeting and capital project evaluations.
  • Lead risk management initiatives and maintain statutory compliance in area of responsibility.
  • Manage and track progress of capital and expense projects.

  • Assertive and collaborative within an empowered team environment.
  • Computer literacy, with experience in MMIS, SAP, or similar systems.
  • Willingness to relocate to Sasolburg or already residing within a 30–45 minute radius.
