Job summary

Placements24 in Bloemfontein, Free State, seeks a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Development team. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle under the guidance of senior engineers.

You will assist with design, analysis, and validation of new mechanical products, gain CAD experience (SolidWorks/AutoCAD), create 3D models and BOMs, and participate in testing and reviews in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of statics, dynamics, materials science, and thermodynamics.
• Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
• Basic knowledge of engineering analysis and simulation techniques.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior engineers in conceptualization and detailed design of new mechanical products using CAD.
• Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs.
• Participate in prototype building, testing, and data collection.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and simulations under supervision.
• Contribute to design reviews and documentation.
• Troubleshoot design issues and support modifications.
• Research new materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations.
