Job Vacancy: Mechanical Engineer
A globally active multidisciplinary engineering firm that offers solutions for the mineral processing & water sectors has a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer based in Sandton.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering – B.Tech, B.Eng or BSc Eng
- A minimum of 6 years in metallurgical / industrial plant design is desirable
- Valid Passport for international travel purposes
- Own vehicle + valid driver's license
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Metallurgical (Process) plant layouts & designs, generation of BOM components and scope of work documents
- Preparation of proposals in the Metallurgical Plant or equipment supply industries
- Produce clear and concise Engineering input, assumptions, and calculations
- Attend Site visits
- Produce technical reports
- Knowledge of performing FEA on plate work and mechanical components
- Create detailed plans, drawings, and specifications to translate the conceptual design into actionable steps
- Monitor and oversee the design, implementation or construction phase, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timelines
- Design mechanical components, including tanks, chutes, hoppers, bins, and silos
- Develop piping layouts and design specifications to meet project requirements
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on platework and mechanical components to evaluate performance and ensure structural integrity
- Generate detailed drawings and documentation for mechanical components and structures
- Prepare reports to document analysis, findings, and recommendations during the design process
- Conduct material test work to assess the bulk flow characteristics of materials and optimize existing or new system performance
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum 6 years in metallurgical plant design and/or industrial sectors (preferable)
- Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering – B.Tech, B.Eng or BSc Eng
- Self-motivated, energetic, positive and enthusiastic individual capable of meeting deadlines
- Effective communication with stakeholders regarding technical information
- Excellent communication, people, and conflict management skills
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong teamwork abilities
- Computer literate in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Proficiency in software such as Inventor, Revit, Recap, Navis, EDEM, or Rocky DEM software
- Extensive experience in piping design and specification generation
- Proficiency in conveyor design and layout
- Familiarity with bulk flow of materials, on-site test work, and DEM simulations
