Mechanical Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to oversee the safety, legality, and efficiency of all mechanical systems and operations at our client's mining site. This role requires a proactive individual with strong leadership capabilities and a thorough understanding of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Legal Appointment:
   If holding a GCC (Mines and Works), you will assume the legal appointment under Section 2.13.1 of the MHSA, responsible for the safety and legality of all mechanical work on site.
2. Regulatory Compliance:
   Ensure all mechanical installations comply with MHSA and stay up to date with evolving legislation. Drive adherence across all operations.
3. Safety Policy Management:
   Develop, implement, and monitor mechanical safety policies and procedures. Ensure communication and compliance across the site.
4. Inspection & Testing:
   Conduct or supervise inspections and performance tests on mechanical systems. Document results, identify issues, and ensure timely corrective actions.
5. Risk Management:
   Perform risk assessments, implement mitigation strategies, and maintain safety readiness.
6. Incident Investigation:
   Lead root cause investigations of mechanical failures and incidents. Document findings and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
7. System Commissioning:
   Oversee design reviews, installation, and commissioning of new mechanical systems. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Training & Competency:
   Ensure staff are trained and competent in mechanical safety protocols and emergency procedures.
9. Continuous Improvement:
   Foster innovation, adopt new technologies, and maintain high standards for system performance and compliance documentation.
10. Reporting & Communication:
    Submit regular reports on system performance, project updates, and compliance. Communicate effectively across departments and with senior management.
11. Liaison & Oversight:
    Manage interactions with contractors, suppliers, and regulators to ensure all work meets site safety and operational standards.
12. Emergency Preparedness:
    Develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure readiness for mechanical incidents.
13. Ad Hoc Duties:
    Complete any additional tasks as directed by management.
