Job summary

Unknown Mechanical Design Engineer – Midrand is a permanent position in the Engineering Department. The role covers full product‑life‑cycle design, development, prototyping, testing, and support of mechanical systems and components.

The successful candidate will perform concept design, calculations, layouts, and FEA evaluation, create solid models and drawings, and liaise with manufacturing and subcontractors throughout development. Strong design and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in mechanical/design engineering.
• 5–7 years mechanical design engineering experience.
• Military vehicle design experience is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of electrical design principles.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or Onshape.

Responsibilities

• Concept design, calculations, layouts, and FEA evaluation.
• Create solid models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Ensure correct drawing standards and technical integrity.
• Support prototype build, testing, and design improvements.
• Communicate with manufacturing and subcontractors during development.
• Manage subsystem design, documentation, and project targets.
• Attend internal and client design reviews.
• Provide production, procurement, and logistics support.
