Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Product Development team in Soweto, Gauteng. You will design mechanical components for consumer electronics, and work with designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners to enable manufacturability and cost-effective mass production.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and 3–5 years of relevant experience, with proficiency in SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in consumer electronics.
• Proficiency with CAD software: SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo.
• Understanding of DFM, plastics, metals, and assembly processes.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for consumer electronic products using CAD software.

• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Perform tolerance analyses, stress analyses, and material selection for product components.

• Troubleshoot mechanical issues encountered during development and manufacturing.
• Work with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are optimized for mass production and cost-effectiveness.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in consumer electronics hardware design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on consumer electronics or similar products.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo).
• Understanding of plastics, metal stamping, and assembly processes relevant to consumer electronics.
• Experience with product development lifecycles and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) principles.
