A leading consulting firm is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design HVAC systems and conduct site assessments in Pretoria. Qualifications

  • 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering.
  • BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.

  • Compile engineering reports for all project phases.

Job description

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles within the consulting environment and demonstrate the ability to develop effective and innovative solutions across various project phases.

The role requires collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines and a commitment to delivering high-quality work aligned with client expectations, industry standards, and project timelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the design and development of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems
  • Conduct client needs analyses and site assessments
  • Compile technical assessments, including maintenance, repair, and status quo reports
  • Perform heat load calculations and propose practical system concepts
  • Select appropriate mechanical systems based on project and client requirements
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards
  • Consult OEMs and suppliers to source current system components
  • Perform ducting design and related equipment selection
  • Assist with Fire Protection, Detection, and Suppression systems design
  • Support in drafting Rational Fire Design reports
  • Contribute to Wet Services project designs, including hydraulic calculations for water systems
  • Generate and review engineering drawings with the assistance of in-house drafting staff
  • Compile engineering reports for all project phases
  • Prepare tender documentation, bills of quantities, budgets, and technical specifications
  • Conduct peer reviews for design documentation (in line with ISO 9001 standards)
  • Participate in construction monitoring and on-site supervision
  • Oversee project design and team management, ensuring timely and budget-aligned delivery
  • Communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with external stakeholders
  • Maintain project documentation in accordance with internal Quality Management Systems
  • Attend meetings and perform site inspections
  • Undertake administrative tasks related to project and team management
  • Operate independently and take responsibility for mechanical engineering design across various projects

REQUIREMENTS

Experience : 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering within the consulting or construction industry

Qualifications : BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering

Skills :

  • Valid Code B drivers license
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
