Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client’s product development team in Benoni, Gauteng. The role focuses on creating detailed designs for new mechanical components and assemblies, ensuring performance, cost, and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with R&D, manufacturing and QA to bring innovative products to market, support prototyping, testing and validation, and maintain design documentation. A hybrid in-office/remote model offers flexibility.

Qualifications

• Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5 years in mechanical design or product development.
• Proficiency in CAD and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies using 3D CAD.
• Create detailed drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
• Perform tolerance analysis and FEA simulations.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies using 3D CAD software.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Perform tolerance analysis and FEA simulations to ensure design integrity and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve design-related issues.
• Support prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs.
• Document design changes and maintain revision control of engineering documentation.

Requirements

• BEng/BTech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in product development.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and understanding of GD&T.
• Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, machining).
• Familiarity with stress analysis and simulation tools.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
