De Beers Technology has operations in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, and is part of the De Beers Group.

We deliver technical services and technology systems to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the De Beers diamond value chain, from exploration to diamond recovery.

Activities include marine geophysical survey, sampling, mining, projects, engineering, technology development, and maintenance.

We provide specialized diamond processing and recovery technology for the De Beers Group's exploration and mining operations.

We are the industry leader in marine mining practices, resulting in the most successful and advanced marine mining equipment and operations globally. The company has an excellent record of successful project delivery, with over 22 years of experience in establishing and developing a fleet of sampling and mining ships and all associated equipment.

Building on this successful track record, we aim to expand our project offerings to De Beers' land-based operations.

Job Description

As the Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs, inspections, and service maintenance work on mechanical equipment. This role reports to the Technical Operations Workshop Department.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Performing trade-related maintenance and repair of industrial equipment and machinery according to maintenance requirements and good workmanship standards.
2. Using and operating all types of trade-related equipment in accordance with Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
3. Monitoring and reporting equipment failures and efficiencies to improve trade-specific equipment and systems.
4. Reading and interpreting trade-related drawings to execute mechanical and hydraulic fitment work according to organizational procedures.
5. Participating in the quality management process, recording all changes, and providing feedback.
6. Manufacturing trade-specific items as required according to drawings.
7. Facilitating and leading teamwork to achieve maintenance targets and equipment commissioning.
8. Using job cards for equipment and maintaining necessary feedback records.
9. Transferring knowledge and improving own technical and trade skills, including training and guiding learners or subordinates.
10. Developing personal career goals and achieving them.

In terms of stakeholder effectiveness and client relationships, you will:

1. Develop and maintain sound working relationships with contractors and service providers.
2. Provide positive motivation to team members to ensure a positive work environment.
3. Share appropriate business information and knowledge across the De Beers pipeline.

Qualifications

MERSETA Trade Test Certificate (or equivalent) with a 3-year apprenticeship in one of the following fields: Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Fitter, Turner, or Millwright.
