Job description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design structures in accordance with SANS 10160 parts 1 to 8 and SANS 10162, including engineering certification of structures.
• Understand American Welding Standard D1.1 and A2.4 : 2020.
• Generate general arrangements (GA) of proposed structures using SolidWorks 2018, including FEA analysis.
• Create standard products to optimize production efficiency.
• Develop detailed drawings for manufacturing structures.
• Design structures to utilize structural steel efficiently.
• Incorporate optimal usage of hand and power tools in designs.
• Design sheet metal cladding for side walls of E-house.
• Knowledge of bending and punching sheet metal.
• Write detailed re-assembly methodologies for steel structures to be used on-site.
• Generate bill of materials for ordering and costing structures.
• Create original equipment manuals (OEM) for E-House and Containerized substations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12
• N6 Mechanical Engineering qualification
• Project management experience is advantageous.
• Drafting experience with design software (preferably SolidWorks).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in structural design and detailing.
• Knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding standard.
• Understanding of NDT testing and procedures.
• Basic understanding of electrical enclosures.
• Previous on-site work experience (mining or petrochemical industry).

• A valid driver's license.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, including formal communications and presentations.
• Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Primarily office-based with occasional site visits.
• Availability to work beyond normal hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed.

Participate in ongoing educational programs to stay updated with industry changes.
