Mechanic – Field & Site-Based
Based in Portlands, Cape Town (with regional travel)

Are you a skilled Diesel Mechanic looking to work for a nationally recognised manufacturing leader? We're on the hunt for a hands-on and reliable artisan to take charge of plant equipment inspections, servicing, and repairs.

This role is based in Portlands, but you'll also support maintenance operations across several sites in the Cape region when required.

Your Day-to-Day Will Involve:

1. Carrying out mechanical repairs—both minor and major—on plant machinery and equipment
2. Diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical faults
3. Performing regular preventative maintenance and inspections
4. Keeping detailed records of work completed, including job cards and maintenance schedules
5. Identifying safety hazards and reporting potential risks or incidents
6. Replacing or repairing faulty parts and components
7. Following company safety procedures and aligning with OHS legislation
8. Supporting the operations team with plant reliability and uptime
9. Ensuring high standards of customer service and internal stakeholder satisfaction

What You'll Need to Succeed:

1. A Red Seal qualification (Millwright, Artisan, or Electrician) – dual-trade experience is a big plus
2. A mechanical diploma (degree is an advantage)
3. Minimum 3–4 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production setup
4. Proficient with hydraulic and pneumatic systems (advantageous)
5. Strong knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and best practices
6. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel between sites
7. Solid computer skills – MS Word, Excel, Outlook
8. Attention to detail and excellent admin capabilities
9. Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
10. A proactive, problem-solving approach to technical challenges
