Our Meat Category team is growing. We seek a knowledgeable and accomplished Meat Buyer, who has solid experience in sourcing and buying meat for the export market.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The candidate is responsible for the purchasing of all procurement both locally and internationally, for exportation and ensuring that the export process is done correctly and in line with the South African and International regulations. The Poultry Buyer should be experienced in conducting the inspection of the local container/s whilst being loaded. The candidate will be the contact person between IOEC and the various export authorities and all meat suppliers both domestically and abroad.

Key Responsibilities Include But Not Limited The Following

• Develop the purchasing of both fresh and frozen poultry for exportation.
• Building strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers.
• Negotiating market support from suppliers.
• Manage and negotiate costs though the value chain to the cuts that are required from our clients for their markets.
• Monitor the execution of orders with suppliers and the Export Coordinators ensuring that all protocols are adhered to.
• Inspection and loading, required to be physically present.
• Supplier liaison, negotiation, market report feedback to suppliers.
• Work with the PPECB inspectors and the veterinary department to get the correct documentation for shipments.
• Negotiate pricing and payment terms with suppliers.
• Source new suppliers where required and develop relationships with existing clients.
• Problem solving and claim resolution.
• Settle claims with suppliers when they arise.
• Keep track of all orders for export.
• Place all orders with the various suppliers.
• Ensure that the correct processes are always being adhered to.

Experience Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing poultry.
• The candidate is required to exceptionally good poultry knowledge and skilled in identifying the grades and cuts of chicken.
• Good understanding /experience of the poultry export process.
• Current relationship with poultry suppliers.
• Understanding and or experience of import regulations for poultry in South Africa would be a bonus.

Remuneration

• The salary will be market related and based on current and prior work experience.
