Role Description

This is a part-time hybrid role for a Maths and Science Tutor at AB Academy located in Pretoria.

The tutor will be responsible for providing Maths and Science tutoring to students, conducting online tutoring sessions, ensuring effective communication with students, and teaching topics such as Algebra.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Prepare and organize lesson plans, exercises, and assessments that align with the South African curriculum.
2. Conduct tutoring sessions, providing one-on-one or group support in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Geography.
3. Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
4. Monitor and assess students' progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and recommendations for improvement.
5. Conduct regular quizzes, assignments, and mock exams to gauge student understanding and readiness for exams.
6. Act as a mentor by fostering a supportive learning environment, motivating students, and helping them develop effective study and organisational skills.
7. Use a variety of teaching methods to engage students, making lessons interactive, interesting, and relevant.
8. Help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and study skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Educational Background

Matric with relevant subjects (Mathematics, English, Physical Sciences, etc.) with an average of at least 70%. Current university/college students with a strong academic background interested in tutoring. A teaching qualification (such as a PGCE) is advantageous but not required.
