Job summary

Elkanah House High School, part of the ADvTECH Schools Division, seeks a locum High School Educator to plan, deliver and assess mathematics instruction for Grades 7–11. The role emphasizes modern, data-informed teaching and inclusive practice, with collaboration across staff to embed global competencies and RDI.

The successful candidate will support strong student outcomes, maintain accurate records and engage in co-curricular activities, within a faith-driven school community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with PGCE/HDE or B.Ed in relevant teaching subjects.
• Valid SACE registration and police clearance.
• 3–5 years of teaching experience with subject specialization.
• Familiarity with CAPS curriculum and inquiry-based learning; IEB teaching and matric marking advantageous.
• Preferred: Honours degree or subject specialisation.
• Preferred: Experience with digital literacy tools and global competencies.

The Role: High School Educator (Locum position)

The educator will plan, deliver, and assess high-quality instructional programs in a high school setting, ensuring that students are inspired, challenged, and equipped to reach their full academic potential. This role involves fostering positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to support student growth and retention while creating a stimulating, inclusive learning environment that embraces modern educational trends and technology.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Delivery:

• Class teaching and support sessions in Mathematics for Grades 7, 8, 10 and 11 while current teacher is on Maternity leave.
• Implement the IEB based curriculum using future-focused and differentiated teaching methods.
• Integrate technology and AI to deliver engaging, data-informed instruction that personalizes learning and supports critical thinking, wellbeing, and academic progress.
• Collaborate with colleagues to embed RDI and Global Competencies, developing inclusive, culturally aware global citizens.

Assessment & Reporting:

• Continuously assess student progress through formative and summative methods, maintain accurate records, provide constructive feedback to students and parents, and participate in moderation and quality assurance processes aligned with Elkanah House standards.

Student Behaviour Management:

• Establish clear behavioural expectations, promote the school’s values, mentor students, and identify barriers to learning to ensure appropriate support mechanisms are activated.

School Brand Ambassadorship:

• Act as a role model for professionalism and the Elkanah House ethos. Participate actively in school events. Support the professional growth of peers and contribute to the broader school community.

Administration:

• Assist with logistical tasks such as excursions, resource management, and ensuring adherence to school policies to maintain an effective learning environment.

Co-Curricular:

• Teachers are required to be involved in co-curricular activities and support the holistic development of students.

Minimum Requirements
