Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist to join its polymer research team in Mossel Bay. The role focuses on design, synthesis, characterization, and testing of novel polymer formulations, driving projects from concept to prototype.

You will work with advanced lab equipment, apply techniques like DSC, TGA, FTIR, NMR, and SEM, and collaborate with product development and manufacturing to implement materials. A PhD and at least three years of polymer experience are required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in polymer synthesis, characterization, and processing.
• Proficiency with analytical techniques relevant to polymer science (e.g., spectroscopy, thermal analysis, mechanical testing).

Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize new polymer materials with tailored properties using various polymerization techniques.
• Characterize the chemical, thermal, mechanical, and morphological properties of synthesized polymers using techniques such as DSC, TGA, FTIR, NMR, and SEM.
• Develop and optimize processing methods for polymer materials, including extrusion, molding, and film casting.
• Conduct performance testing and application-specific evaluations of developed materials.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development and manufacturing, to ensure successful material implementation.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments, results, and conclusions, and prepare technical reports.
