Placements24 seeks a Research Chemist to join its Materials Science division in Gauteng. The role blends in-lab synthesis with remote analysis and reporting, contributing to novel materials with enhanced properties for industrial applications.

The ideal candidate holds a Master's or PhD in Chemistry or Materials Science, with proven experience in synthetic chemistry and material characterization using NMR, IR, UV-Vis, GC, HPLC, SEM or TEM.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in synthetic organic or inorganic chemistry with a focus on materials development.
• Proficiency with analytical techniques such as spectroscopy and chromatography, and microscopy.
• Experience with material characterization techniques is essential.
• Hybrid work setup with strong problem-solving and safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Synthesize and characterize new chemical compounds and materials using laboratory techniques.
• Conduct rigorous testing and analysis to evaluate material properties like strength and conductivity.
• Develop and optimize synthesis protocols for new materials, ensuring reproducibility.
• Analyze experimental data using analytical instrumentation and statistics.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to integrate materials into product pipelines.
