Job description

Materials Controller

A tissue manufacturing company in Kempton Park is seeking a Materials Controller with 3-5 years of experience in the paper/tissue or FMCG industry.

  1. Supervise and handle the stacking of all raw materials, ensuring safety and FIFO (First In, First Out).
  2. Process all wadding materials transactions on the system.
  3. Supervise material transfers to machines and finished goods transfers to storage.
  4. Ensure accuracy of transactions in WMS and SYSPRO.
  5. Ensure machine operational staff correctly record material flow between warehouses and bin locations.
  6. Reconcile physical and system stock daily and prepare for stock counts.
  7. Maintain high housekeeping standards at all times.
  8. Ensure all rejected raw materials are documented with NCRs daily and coordinate with the group supply planner for upliftment to prevent backlogs.
  9. Maintain sufficient pallet stocks to prevent supply interruptions, especially before weekends.
  10. Report machine breakdowns immediately and follow up daily; arrange cover to prevent operational impact.
  11. Store materials properly to prevent damage and ensure all stock is labeled with stock codes for identification.
  12. Manage redundant materials by deciding on write-offs, sales, or re-use strategies.
  13. Notify the group supply planner of inaccurate BOMs using the trial kit process for urgent correction.
  14. Drive compliance in running out poly and wadding materials, preventing waste, and escalating issues via daily communication.
  15. Wrap, label, weigh, and store rejected reels properly, ensuring NCRs are completed correctly.
  16. Collaborate with QA to ensure NCRs are properly completed for reels removed from rewinders, escalating non-compliance issues.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • Grade 12 (Matric); studies in supply chain (BPIM or PPIM) are advantageous.
  • 3-5 years' experience in FMCG manufacturing and materials management.
  • Self-confident, proactive, with good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP systems, preferably SYSPRO.
  • Ability to follow procedures, control systems, and adhere to safety standards.
  • Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and physical fitness for lifting tasks.
  • Ability to lead by example, apply disciplinary measures, and manage a team effectively.
  • Strict adherence to safe work practices and ERP procedures.
