A leading company in East London is seeking an Import Material Planner to ensure the timely and efficient supply of imported materials for production. Key duties include optimizing inventory management, coordinating with suppliers, and utilizing SAP ERP for reporting. Ideal candidates will possess a degree in Supply Chain Management and have experience in the automotive industry.
Responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient supply of imported materials required for production. This includes analyzing demand forecasts, coordinating with suppliers and freight forwarding agents, and managing inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstocking.
Inventory Management & Optimization:
Develop and implement strategies to optimize the availability of imported materials and minimize transport costs.
Maintain optimal stock levels by analyzing demand forecasts, production schedules, and current inventory.
Support the development and execution of inventory replenishment strategies.
Systems & Reporting:
Utilize SAP ERP to monitor material movements, generate performance reports, and assist in data analysis for strategic decisions.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records to support inventory control and forecasting.
Supplier & Freight Coordination:
Coordinate with suppliers and freight forwarders to ensure timely and consolidated material shipments.
Monitor delivery performance and container utilization to reduce freight costs and ensure on-time deliveries.
Support supplier relationship management to ensure the quality and reliability of supply.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiency and accuracy.
Contribute to supply chain cost-saving initiatives and process enhancements.
Budget & KPI Management:
Ensure adherence to inventory budgets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Support cycle counting and inventory accuracy initiatives.
Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field
Minimum of 3 years' experience in import material planning within the automotive industry
At least 1 year of experience in purchasing or procurement functions
In-depth knowledge of demand forecasting and import materials planning
Understanding of manufacturing and lean production processes
Familiarity with quality systems in the automotive industry
General logistics and international transport knowledge
Working knowledge of customs and excise regulations
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills
Proficiency in SAP ERP and MS Excel
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment
Strong understanding of supply chain optimization methodologies
Experience with inventory control and cycle counting practices
