The Opportunity

As a Marketing Assistant, you will be an integral part of the local marketing team, supporting the execution of brand strategies and marketing initiatives of the Mattel brand.

This role provides hands-on experience in product management and campaign execution while ensuring alignment with global brand guidelines.

You will collaborate closely with teams including Sales, Media, and PR to contribute to the success of our brands in the local market.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical marketing experience working with a globally recognized brand in a dynamic, creative industry. The role is based in Johannesburg and is part of the Mattel South Africa Marketing Team.

The position is a 1-year temporary contract.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist in implementing brand strategies and marketing action plans.
  • Contribute to media and digital marketing initiatives by coordinating content and campaigns.
  • Support retail marketing activations in partnership with trade marketing teams.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to execute marketing initiatives.
  • Help prepare reports and presentations on brand activity performance.
What We're Looking For
  • Passion for the toy industry and eagerness to learn about Mattel brands.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills as a team player.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive problem-solver.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data.
  • Interest in Brand Marketing and basic understanding of digital channels (social media, e-commerce).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.
  • Previous internship or project experience in marketing, FMCG, retail, or digital marketing is a plus.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
