Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marketing and Sales Manager to drive the sales and marketing strategy for our strata control products in the mining sector across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. This is a hands-on role requiring both strategic leadership and direct customer management. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of underground roof support systems, specifically cable anchors, and will be responsible for guiding and supporting the sales team while maintaining key client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales & Business Development: Identify and develop new business opportunities for strata control products, expanding our customer base in the mining industry.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Directly manage a portfolio of key clients while mentoring and supporting the sales team in handling other accounts.
  • Marketing Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement targeted marketing campaigns to position our products effectively in the mining sector.
  • Technical Consultation: Provide technical advice and product demonstrations to clients, showcasing the benefits of our strata control solutions.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the sales team, setting sales targets, tracking performance, and providing strategic guidance.
  • Industry Networking: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including mining engineers, procurement teams, and decision-makers.
  • Market Analysis & Strategy Development: Conduct market research to understand customer needs, competitor activities, and industry trends.
  • Travel: Be prepared to travel extensively within South Africa and across sub-Saharan Africa to visit clients and support the sales team.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing; or, Bachelor’s degree in Rock Engineering, Mining, Geotechnical or other Engineering discipline with a post-graduate diploma in Marketing.
  • Industry Experience:
    • Experience in the underground mining sector. Experience in underground roof support and strata control solutions would be beneficial.
    • Strong knowledge of cable anchors and associated support systems.
  • Sales & Marketing Expertise: Proven track record in sales, business development, and marketing. Sales and marketing expertise within the mining industry would be beneficial.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to engage with mining professionals, understand technical challenges, and offer appropriate solutions.
  • Leadership & Team Management: Experience in leading and managing a sales team, setting goals, and driving performance.
  • Communication & Negotiation Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Willingness to Travel: Must be prepared to travel extensively across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
