Job Title: Marketing and Communications Assistant
The Marketing and Communications Assistant is responsible for executing Futurelect's brand and communications strategy.
The role involves crafting and distributing high-quality content, managing media relations, and supporting event planning to ensure all communications are engaging and on-brand.
About Futurelect
Founded in Johannesburg, Futurelect is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming political and government leadership across Africa. We aim to equip a new generation of young, ethical leaders with the skills and knowledge to serve their communities effectively, responsibly, and with integrity.
Our non-partisan leadership programs target young African women aged 18-45, either already on a leadership path or aspiring to such roles. We also offer an online Civic Education Programme in South Africa, providing free, accessible courses on democracy and governance for South Africans aged 16-34.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Content Creation and Management
- Develop, draft, and distribute engaging content, including social media posts, press releases, and multimedia materials, ensuring consistency with Futurelect's brand identity.
- Assist in creating and updating content for websites, newsletters, and other channels.
- Support the design and production of marketing materials for events and campaigns.
- Oversee newsletter creation, design, and distribution, maintaining accurate stakeholder updates.
- Maintain and grow mailer databases and manage mailing software.
- Support social media team with trending topics and content drafting.
- Regularly update website and apps with relevant content.
- Event Support
- Assist in planning and executing events, including logistics and material preparation.
- Manage promotional materials and branded stock.
- Capture content at events for social media and program use.
- Identify relevant events and engagement opportunities, including speaker opportunities.
- Media Relations
- Manage media relationships, draft press materials, and monitor media coverage.
- Update media placements on the website.
- Research and Analysis
- Research political trends and support impact reports with background information.
- Stakeholder and Alumni Engagement
- Maintain stakeholder database and support engagement efforts.
- Manage the Alumni Programme, develop online platforms, and support networking initiatives.
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Assist in developing surveys and feedback mechanisms.
- Help prepare progress reports and track outcomes.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy in all tasks, manage time and resources efficiently, and support department operations.
- Demonstrate reliability, meet deadlines, and maintain high performance.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Marketing, Communications, Design, or related field (beneficial but not required).
- 1-2 years experience in similar roles preferred.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Ability to produce professional and creative documents and materials.
- Budget management skills.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of additional African languages is a plus.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Keynote, Grammarly, Zoom, Trello, Asana, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, Wix or WordPress.
