Market Development Representative – Informal Trade

Accountable for the operation of own work area or as a team member, ensuring quality, standards, and outputs within defined routines and policies.
Job Purpose
Based in a defined geography, the primary purpose is to develop spaza shops, mini-supermarkets, and tuckshops on behalf of BevCo. Must have an intimate knowledge of the geography, informal retail dynamics, and outlets aligned with BevCo’s strategic growth objectives for the area.
Key Accountabilities and Outputs
Customer Management Objectives
- Engage actively and build relationships with outlets on behalf of BevCo, meeting call rate and conversion targets. Seed BevCo’s portfolio into the area and large informal retail channels.
- Build and maintain an active base of informal retail clients, providing regular service weekly/monthly.
- Facilitate informal retailers to purchase directly from local wholesalers, bulk breakers, and distributors.
- Manage company assets like refrigeration and signage according to BevCo governance requirements.
Sales and Trade Marketing Objectives
- Support sales and distribution targets into informal retail channels from local wholesalers, bulk breakers, and distributors.
- Assist in executing the marketing plan for the area, including activations, promotions, fridges, and POSM.
- Ensure compliance with BevCo merchandising and pricing standards, in conjunction with the GT representative as relevant.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 / Matric / NQF level 4
- Up to 2 years of experience in operational execution in FMCG sales.
- Basic PC knowledge or ability to acquire it.
