Marine Underwriter (Senior & Mid-Level) | Johannesburg | Corporate Insurance

Our client, a specialist insurer with a growing footprint in the corporate marine market, is expanding its team and seeking two experienced Marine Underwriters to join their Johannesburg office.

This is an opportunity to manage your own portfolio with cradle-to-grave accountability, combining technical underwriting with broker-facing responsibilities. You’ll enjoy autonomy, mandate ownership, and the ability to directly impact business development efforts within a highly respected and dynamic underwriting team.

Open Roles
  • Senior Marine Underwriter: Aimed at professionals with 10+ years of marine underwriting experience, ideally aged 40+, and well-established in the South African market. A key succession planning hire.
  • Mid-Level Marine Underwriter: Requires approximately 5 years’ experience, confident working independently and handling a full portfolio with minimal technical oversight.
Ideal Candidates Will Have
  • Proven track record in cargo/marine underwriting within the corporate or high-end commercial space.
  • Ability to balance risk assessment with client acquisition and retention.
  • FAIS-compliant with a full qualification and RE5.
Work Model
  • Office-based in Johannesburg, Monday to Friday.
  • Core hours: 08:30–15:30 (flexibility outside of these).
