The Role

We are seeking a Managing Tech Lead to oversee and drive the technical direction, infrastructure strategy, and service excellence for a prestigious London-based client. This role combines technical leadership, team management, and high-level architectural decision-making, ensuring the seamless operation, optimisation, and security of enterprise IT environments.

As a Managing Tech Lead, you will lead a team of L2 and L3 Engineers, act as the primary escalation point for complex issues, and collaborate with senior stakeholders, architects, and external vendors. You will drive continuous service improvements, automation, and modernisation efforts, aligning IT operations with business goals.

Role Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and implement long-term infrastructure strategy, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
  • Oversee Windows, Linux, VMware, Citrix, Entra AD, M365, and Exchange environments, ensuring high availability and compliance.
  • Architect and optimise networking (Cisco, Meraki, VPNs, Palo Alto), storage (SANs, iSCSI), and cloud solutions.
  • Lead cloud migration, automation, and DevOps initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
  • Ensure disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity planning (Veeam, iLand, replication) meets enterprise standards.
  • Manage enterprise-wide IT monitoring solutions such as PRTG to improve performance visibility and predictive maintenance.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of L2 and L3 Engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Manage workload distribution, team priorities, and operational efficiency to meet SLAs and business needs.
  • Drive collaboration between IT, security, DevOps, and business units, ensuring cohesive technical solutions.
  • Act as the final escalation point for critical IT issues, providing expert guidance on resolution strategies.

Service Management & Process Optimisation

  • Oversee end-to-end IT service management (ITSM) processes using ServiceNow, ensuring efficient incident, problem, and change management.
  • Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance operational reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with ITIL frameworks, driving continuous service improvements.
  • Generate performance reports and analytics using ServiceNow dashboards to identify trends and areas for optimisation.

Security, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Implement and maintain enterprise security policies, access controls, and compliance frameworks (ISO, NIST, GDPR).
  • Collaborate with security teams to mitigate risks, enhance incident response, and ensure system integrity.
  • Manage the deployment and optimisation of Darktrace, Zscaler, and CrowdStrike to improve threat detection and response.
  • Oversee endpoint security using Ivanti Security Control, ensuring comprehensive protection across all devices.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive automation, AI/ML integration, and DevOps methodologies to modernise IT workflows.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies, ensuring the firm stays at the forefront of IT innovation.
  • Develop performance metrics, reporting tools, and dashboards to track system health and team efficiency.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven in enterprise IT, with a proven track record in infrastructure leadership and service delivery.
  • Deep expertise in Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Citrix, Entra AD, M365, and Exchange.
  • Strong networking knowledge (Cisco, Meraki, VPNs, Palo Alto, Brocade Fibre, HPE switches).
  • Extensive experience in cloud solutions, automation, and DevOps (Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab, Python, PowerShell).
  • Expertise in ITSM platforms, particularly ServiceNow, for incident, problem, and change management.
  • Experience deploying PRTG and other enterprise monitoring tools to improve IT visibility and automation.
  • Strategic thinking with hands-on capabilities in SQL administration, security policies, and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and project delivery experience.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSE, CCNP, VCP, Citrix CCE-V, ITIL, TOGAF, CISSP, AWS/Azure Architect) preferred.

Screening call: Phone call with our recruitment team to assess your suitability for the role, but also if the role is right for you.

First interview: Video call over MS Teams with the Hiring Manager.

Second interview: Video call over MS Teams with the Head of Infrastructure, including presentation.
